The diary of Samuel Pepys is one of the most important documents in the English Language. Through his daily observations Pepys brings a key period of British history to life.
Beginning in 1660, Pepys mentions the coronation of Charles II, the Great Fire of London, the Black Plague and the Second Dutch War. He also writes about his work in reforming the Royal Navy.
Samuel made his last entry on 31st March 1669, fearing he would lose his sight.
350 years later, the Royal Mint has struck a Two Pound Coin, to celebrate the life and observations of this man- Samuel Pepys.
