On the 6 June 1944, a huge invasion force reached northern France. The allies comprised of 6,939 ships and landing craft, 11,590 aircraft and 156,115 ground and airborne troops, the Allied forces stormed 5 beaches, code-named Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword.
The operation was well planned and executed, D Day was the plan that turned the tide of the Second World War. This commemorative £2 brilliant uncirculated coin pays tribute to those hero’s who carried out the largest amphibious assault in military history.
