Issued to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. The world famous poet, playwright and actor.
Born on the 26th April 1564 in Stratford Upon Avon, he was one of six children, his father John Shakespeare was a leather merchant, his mother, a local landed heiress.
He was 18 when he married Ann Hathaway and they went on to have 3 children two of which were twins. Although Shakespeare’s life have been studied by academics from all over the world. The period between 1585 and 1592, became known by scholars as the ‘lost years’ as there were no records of what William Shakespeare did in those years.
He moved to London at some point and began a successful career as an actor and writer.
William Shakespeare wrote 38 plays, 154 sonnets, and 2 long narrative poems, most of his work was written between 1589 and 1613.
Shakespeare retired and moved back to Stratford Upon Avon in 1613, he died 3 years later in 1616 aged 49.
