The young princess became Queen in 1952.
The young princess Elizabeth was born in April 1926, the eldest daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
Although, when she was born she was not destined to be Queen, until her uncle King Edward VIII abdicated so he could be with the woman he loved Wallis Simpson.
After his abdication his brother George, Elizabeth’s father became King George VI and Princess Elizabeth was second in line to the throne.
Princess Elizabeth ascended the throne aged 25 after the death of her father on the 6th February 1952.
At that point, she became the Head of State for the United Kingdom, the Head of the Commonwealth, and the reigning monarch of Canada, Australia,, Union of South Africa Pakistan and Ceylon, and also 15 other countries.
Queen Elizabeth is Britain’s 40th Monarch since William the Conqueror was crowned in 1066. Her coronation took place on the 2nd June 1953, more than a year after the death of King George VI. On September 9th 2015, she passed a historic milestone, becoming the reigning monarch in British history, surpassing her grand-mother Queen Victoria.
