Trinity House 500th Anniversary
Gold Proof Two Pound Coin
comes complete with Numbered Certificate of Authenticity, box and cardboard outer
In 1513 a group of seafarers that adminstered the Alm House, near the naval dockyard near Deptford, petitioned Henry VIII, to set up an organisation to protect wrecks and shipwrecked seafarers from harm.
In 1514 Henry VIII granted their wish and Trinity House was set up to regulate the pilotage of the Thames and the national security and safety of all the shipping using the port of London.
Over the last 500 years Trinity House’s roll has evolved and it now looks after 64 Lighthouses, 8 light vessels and annually services 10,000 navigation aids in the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and Gibraltar.
It is the largest self funded maritime charity and spends over 3 million pounds per year on the welfare, education and training of mariners
