In 2014 the Royal Mint issued the first Silver Proof coin in the Lunar Series.
This 5 oz Silver Proof coin was issued to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Horse,
it was reverse was designed by Wuon-Gean Ho.
The obverse was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley and is HM Queen’s forth portrait.
The Shengxiao collection is known by many as the Chinese Zodiac.
The Shengxiao, relates each year to one of the twelve animals.
Attributing the characteristics associated with that animal to the people born in a given year.
People born in the Year of the Horse are said to be outgoing and cheerful. They enjoy being part of a crowd, but only when they are the centre of attention.
They are generally healthy and agile and have a positive outlook on life. Horses tend to be leaders in the workplace.
Their charming nature and good humour make them admired and amiable partners.
There is believed to be at least 24 white horse hill figures in Britain, carved into chalk all over the Britsh Isles but most commonly in Wiltshire. Most of them were created in the last 300 hundred years and many of them have disappeared, overgrown and lost out of sight. Perhaps the most famous white horse the ‘Uffington Horse’ is the most ancient. It has previously thought yo have been created in the Iron Age, but is now thought to date back 3000 years.
