In 2011 the Royal Mint issued this lovely Silver Proof one coin. Honouring the wonderful city of Cardiff. Neolithic inhabitants settled around Cardiff at least 6000 years ago, 1500 years before Stonehenge and an eight acre Roman fort near the mouth of the river Taff marks the city’s first historical presence.
Two national symbols dominate the 2011 Cardiff coin, the instantly recognisable emblem of Wales, the red dragon and the leek, a sign of patriotism for over 700 hundred years.
Cardiff metropolitan character, and its important position between mountains and sea are symbolised by the motto beneath the shield, which when translated reads: ‘the red dragon shall Lead’
The coin comes complete with Certificate of Authenticity, box and cardboard outer.
