To celebrate the London Olympics the Royal Mint issued a series of Silver Proof Five Pound coin to commemorate of things ‘British’
This particular coin part of the ‘Body Series’ celebrates the British love of ‘The Weather’ which has always been a major talking point. Probably, because the United Kingdom is an island, the weather can change rapidly from one day to the next. Sunshine is forecast and then we have rain! Extremes of weather is a rare event in Britain, but it does happen. In October 1987, a weatherman for the BBC failed to predict, a hurricane, which flattened much of the south-east England, poor Sevenoaks in Kent, lost all but one of its famous oaks. In total 15 million trees where blown over or damaged.
This silver proof coin depicts a weather vane, and come complete with certificate.
