In 2009 the Royal Mint issued this lovely Silver Proof Shield of Arms one pound coin, this coin designed by Matthew Dent, and was first introduced in 2008. The design was originally planned of our decimal coinage, fifty pence down to one pence.
When these coins were put together, they made a Royal Arms.
Although there were no plans to issue a new design for the pound coin Matthew pointed out that
‘heraldry has been the basis of coinage design in Britain for hundred’s of years’
The obverse features HM Queen Elizabeth , designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.
The coin comes complete with Certificate of Authenticity and box.
