In 2005 the Royal Mint issued this Silver Proof Five Pound coin, on behalf of Jersey, to celebrate our Naval history.
Featured on this striking coin is HMS Conqueror, a submarine that served our nation from 1971 and 1990.
It was during the conflict of the Falkland Islands, that Admiral John Forster Woodward, ordered HMS Conqueror to intercept the ARA General Belgrano a light cruiser, who along with two other cruisers had strayed out of the Argentine shipping exclusion zone seen as a considerable threat. HMS Conqueror was ordered to sink the Belgrano, and this was the only time, Conqueror engaged the enemy during the war.
The coin comes complete with information card and is encapsulated.
