Description

In 2004 the Royal Mint issued a series of Silver Proof Five pounds

coins on behalf of Alderney, to celebrate the ‘History of the Royal Navy’.

This lovely coin features ‘HMS Revenge’  she was built in Deptford

She weighed 440 tons carried 46 guns and was crewed  by 250 seamen.

In 1591 she saw action in the Azores as part of a small fleet.

 The Revenge was under the command

of Sir Richard Grenville, whose father had commanded

and was lost aboard the Mary Rose some fifty years earlier.

This coin comes complete with information card.
