THE GLORIOUS REVOLUTION OF 1688-9 CAME ABOUT DUE TO JAMES II ATTEMPT OF DESPOTISM, WHICH ENDED IN HIS REMOVAL FROM THRONE. WHEN WILLIAM AND MARY CAME TO THE THRONE, THEY WERE ADVISED BY THE SCOTTISH LORDS TO CALL A CONVENTION OF ESTATES, WHICH AGREED THAT JAMES II HAD LOST HIS RIGHT TO BE THE KING OF SCOTLAND. SCOTLAND ADOPTED A CLAIM OF RIGHT WHICH LIMITED THE POWERS OF THE CROWN AND GUARANTEED PARLIAMENTARY GOVERNMENT. WILLIAM AND MARY WERE OBLIGED TO ACCEPT OF RIGHTS WHEN OFFERED THE CROWN OF SCOTLAND, WHICH CORRESPONDED WITH THE BILL OF RIGHTS IN ENGLAND
