Description
In 1989 the Royal mint issued this special half Gold Sovereign
to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of
the first Gold Sovereign.
Both the full and half sovereign was only available in a proof version.
The half Sovereign depicts a crowned Tudor Rose on the reverse of the coin, whilst the obverse depicts Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, seated enthroned ,
facing forwards in a style similar to the first sovereigns issued all those years ago.
The new tudor King Henry VII celebrated the stability of his realm with
‘A new Coin of Gold’
The Sovereign was named to honour the king.
The Sovereign a statement of wealth and strength.
Every year a judicial ceremony called
‘The Trial of Pyx’ meets as it has done for over 700 hundred year.
At the ‘trial’ an independent panel sworn in by HM Queen
ascertains whether the coins made by the Royal Mint
are the correct weight, diameter and composition of the coins.

This Sovereign comes complete with number certificate of Authenticity, box and cardboard outer.
