The Gold Sovereign was first issued in 1489, during the reign of Henry VII. It was his desire to promote England position within Europe and saw his coinage as a way of making grand propaganda.
All the sovereigns produced features Henry VII enthroned and on the reverse of the coin saw the Tudor Rose and the Royal Shield
